The students in kindergarten will learn how to add two numbers using visuals. They will also use their knowledge of math to answer questions about an addition problem. The questions may include identifying which number is bigger in the equation, and finding the total of the equation. The students are learning how a visual can help them problem solve.

I taught this lesson to a second grade class at Lakewood Elementary. The lesson was all about splitting a single shape into new shapes. I used a paper sandwich and had the students cut up the sandwich into new shapes. This was more of a hands-on and visual lesson.
